PMG Brief History of the Photographic Materials Group

The Photographic Materials Group (PMG) of the American Institute for Conservation (AIC) was officially formed with a signed article of incorporation in August 1979, making it the first Specialty Group within AIC. Initially, photographic materials conservators met annually at the general AIC meetings and at an annual winter meeting specific to photographic materials conservation. By 1989, the biennial winter meetings schedule (every two years) replaced the yearly winter meeting schedule. Any given year, approximately 300 to 400 AIC members are also PMG members. AIC-PMG members can find current membership totals in the community forum either under "My Communities" or "All Communities" listings.

Serving the needs of the photographic community worldwide, PMG promotes the creation of relevant tools and publication of research, offering several online and published resources:
