RFREERWATERS is the handle for Rachel Freer-Waters

Rachel has recently worked on the Basketry page, and is excited to work on the Fiber Analysis page.

Work Experience

Rachel is presently working for the National Park Service, consulting on the conservation of textiles, and working with leather as a craftsman. She is a member of the NPS Western Cultural Resource Emergency Response Team, and looks forward to working further in Emergency Response. She holds a Red Card for wildland firefighting, and has field archaeology experience.

Internships

Rachel completed a Andrew W. Mellon Advanced Training Program in Object and Textile Conservation, at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian, Suitland, MD. She also completed conservation internships at the Menil Collection, Houston; NPS Harper's Ferry Center; Chinati Foundation, Marfa; Bernacki Conservation, Chicago; and the Union League Club, Chicago.

She recently completed an apprenticeship with Rocketbuster Boots in El Paso, TX, and has mastered the art of leather working.

Education

Rachel has an MS in Textiles and a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago

Rachel is a Professional Associate of the American Institute for Conservation as of May 2010.
