Chstephens is the username for Dr. Catherine H. Stephens, a conservation scientist who occasionally contributes to the wiki site.

Work Experience

Catherine is currently an associate conservation scientist in the Department of Scientific Research at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Before that, she worked for 12 years as a conservation scientist who focused on paper degradation. She worked in a research group that was originally formed by Dr. Robert Feller in 1950 at the Mellon Institute in Pittsburgh, PA. This research group has had several names during its existence, was at one point incorporated into Carnegie Mellon University, and in 2013, was transferred to Yale University in Connecticut.


Catherine has a Ph.D. degree in Macromolecular Science and Engineering from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH. She also has two bachelors degrees, in Chemistry and Art History, from the State University of New York College at Geneseo. Her junior year in college, she spent a semester abroad in Florence, Italy.

Professional Affiliations

Catherine is a Professional Associate of the American Institute for Conservation (AIC). She has served the AIC as a RATS chair, is a contributor to the Wiki, and is an associate editor for the Journal of the American Institute of Conservation (JAIC).
