2000. Prior to joining the Getty Museum, he worked at the Santa Monica Museum of Art, the Autry Center for Western Heritage (1990-2000) and taught drawing at the California Institute of the Arts (1991-1994).
With his colleagues at the Getty, he specializes in the design, fabrication and development of
seismic mounts for objects, primarily Greek and Roman Antiquities.
In 2007, McKenzie and his colleagues in the Antiquities Conservation Department developed the idea of hosting a forum at the J. Paul Getty Villa, addressing the concerns of mountmaking for art objects.
The mountmaking forum came to life in 2008, attracting an international audience of over 130 attendees. Through the dedicated and inspired efforts of many, the Forum has continued with biennial meetings
held at the Smithsonian Museum of the American Indian (2010), and the Chicago Field Museum (2012).
