Katy Kaspari is an objects conservator in private practice, working primarily in Chicago, IL and Denver, CO. Katy is a graduate of the UCL MA/MSc in Conservation for Archaeology and Museums course and specializes in the treatment of organic materials, including historic taxidermy mounts, Indigenous collections, and textiles. Katy is the wiki and website coordinator for AIC’s Health and Safety Network, and also sits on several committees relating to the health and safety of heritage professionals, including the Contamination and Pesticides Repatriation Working Group (XRF and Pesticide History subcommittees) and the American Industrial Hygiene Association Museums and Cultural Heritage Working Group. Katy has extensive experience in the use of XRF for screening collections for heavy metal pesticides and her research interests include heavy metal exposures among museum workers, communicating risks to museum workers, Tribes, and others who may be exposed to toxic pesticides, and collaborative engagement in conservation.
