SSPRINGER is the username for Samantha Springer
Samantha is Owner and Principal Conservator of Art Solutions Lab, a cultural heritage and fine art conservation practice in the Portland, Oregon area. Her practice is focused on providing general collections care to small regional organizations, regional courier services, living artist collaborations & consultations, conservation imaging techniques, and treatment services for sculpture and variable art. Prior to starting her own business, Samantha was Conservator at the Portland Art Museum where she established a conservation program at the Museum proper and integrated conservation practices throughout the numerous departments. Samantha moved to Portland in 2015 from Cleveland where she worked as Associate Conservator of Objects at the Cleveland Museum of Art. She completed graduate internships in conservation at the Art Institute of Chicago, Field Museum of Chicago, Smithsonian-National Museum of the American Indian, and Alaska State Museums in Juneau and Sitka. Samantha also had pre-program internships at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Fine Art Conservation Group a private practice located in Manhattan.
Samantha became a contributor to the AIC Wiki in 2012.
Samantha completed her graduate conservation degree at the Winterthur/Univeristy of Delaware Program in Conservation with a specialty in objects and additional concentration in preventive conservation. Prior to this she completed an M.A. in Art History at Hunter College in New York City and a B.A. in Humanistic Studies at McGill University in Montreal.
Samantha is a Professional Associate member of the American Institute for Conservation (AIC). She is also a member of WAAC, AIC-OSG, and AIC-EMG. From 2017-2019, Samantha served as WAAC Member-at-Large. She is on the Steering Committee of the AIC Materials Working Group.
