Jiuan Jiuan Chen is an Associate Professor teaching Conservation Imaging at the Patricia H. and Richard E. Garman Art Conservation Department, SUNY Buffalo State. Graduated from the same department in 2001, Jiuan Jiuan has worked as a photograph conservator at George Eastman House and Paul Messier LLC before she took on the current teaching position in 2012. Her interest and delve into imaging started with her Master's Project: Photodocumentation of Photographic Materials under the guidance of Irene Bruckle and Dan Kushel. In this project, she designed the prototypes of various sizes of targets which eventually become the AIC PhD Targets in collaboration with Dan Kushel and Luisa Casella. She also worked out a practical approach of documenting the negative view of daguerreotypes . Her interested in using UV to examine and document artwork prompted her to design a UV target, which eventually manufactured to Target UV based on a US patent she co-holds with Paul Messier.

She joined the Imaging Working Group in March 2020.
